  1. After watching a mailing list full of talented developers languish on T3 for years, its been an absolute pleasure to see DarkGod bust out hundreds upon hundreds of features and bug fixes.

He's truly a gifted developer, and the devotion he shows to his community is a big part of what makes it so. Great interview - concise and comprehensive.

As for "nothing in the Warcraft series being original," its an age-old nitpick that you might levy against Gary Gygax. Shame on him for stealing from Tolkien. I would just as likely call that observation "sour grapes." If its fun and it works, I'm glad someone had the foresight to "steal" it.

  2. I have no gripes with it Jaggus, I played my share of warcraft 1/2/3 (no WoW tho).

Blizzard polishes the tried and true rather than create totally original stuff, and that's a perfectly valid way of making games (although I'm happy there are also plenty of developers going the other way).

  3. Great episode! It was really interesting to listen to such an importent person in the roguelike community. Just featured your podcast once more in my German roguelike report. ;)

  4. Based on the number of updates, I think it's fairly evident that Darkgod is actually some sort of futuristic robot, and not a mere human.

  5. In case anyone wonders what books DarkGod was talking about around 3'30", it's Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey.
